Original text and translations

Latin.png Latin text

Anima mea liquefacta est ut dilectus locutus est;
quæsivi, et non inveni illum;
vocavi, et non respondit mihi.
Invenerunt me custodes civitatis;
percusserunt me, et vulneraverunt me.
Tulerunt pallium meum custodes murorum.

Adjuro vos, filiæ Jerusalem, si inveneritis/inveritis dilectum meum,

nuntietis ei quia amore langueo.

English.png English text

My heart had melted at the sound of my beloved’s voice;
I sought him, and found him not;
I called, and he did not answer me.
The watchmen of the city found me;
they struck me, and wounded me.
The watchmen of the walls took away my veil.

I adjure you, daughters of Jerusalem, if you find my beloved/turn to my beloved,
tell him that I languish with love.
